Argentines Nalbandian and Coria Find Way to Win

Guillermo Coria posted an impressive comeback from a 6-1, 5-1 deficit to defeat Paul-Henri Mathieu 1-6, 7-6(6), 6-4 and reach the third round of the ATP Masters Series Monte Carlo presented by Rolex. The Argentine overcame four match points in the second set (two of them at 4-6 in the tie-break) to take the match to a third set.

In the final set, Coria broke at 2-2 and quickly jumped to a 5-2 lead. Mathieu never gave breaking Coria's serve in the next game and coming back from 0-40 in the next to hold and put the pressure back on Coria's serve. With a packed stadium, Coria came back from 0-30 in the last game winning four points in a row to close the match on his seventh match point in 2 hours, 47 minutes of play.

Coria will now play Nicolas Kiefer for a place in the quarterfinals and continues his quest to reach his fourth consectuive final in Monte Carlo.

David Nalbandian turned around a shaky start Wednesday morning on Center Court to sink Italian up-and-comer Andreas Seppi in straight sets.

Trailing by scores of 4-1 and 5-2 in the opening set, the third-seeded Argentine reeled off five consecutive games to snatch the first set from the 22-year-old. Nalbandian served for the match at 5-4 in the second set, but suffered a momentary lapse of concentration as he double-faulted to allow Seppi to level the score. He promptly broke back and converted on his third match point to seal the 7-5, 7-5 victory.

Nalbandian, currently ranked a career high No. 3 in the INDESIT ATP Rankings, notched his 15th win of the season with Wednesday's effort and improved to 3-0 on clay, including his Davis Cup victory against Sweden in February.

He will next face No. 15 seed Tommy Robredo, whom he has played four times previously. The Argentine has claimed their last three encounters; earlier this year, he defeated Robredo in four sets in the fourth round of the Australian Open.

In his second round match Wednesday, Robredo ousted Olivier Rochus, whose younger brother Christophe fell to local qualifier Benjamin Balleret in straight sets Tuesday. The Spaniard also bested the Belgian in their last clay court meeting in Buenos Aires back in 2001.

Also on Wednesday morning, two-time Monte-Carlo champion Juan Carlos Ferrero breezed through his second round match with Chile's Juan Ignacio Chela. The former World No. 1 earned 18 break chances during the 72-minute match, while denying Chela in his sole attempt.

The No. 11 seed will face the winner of the match between Dominik Hrbaty and eight-seeded compatriot David Ferrer.

Meanwhile, Monaco's Benjamin Balleret continued his impressive run in his hometown, earning a third-round meeting with the winner of the Roger Federer-Alberto Martin match when Frenchman Sebastien Grosjean retired with back pain at 4-6, 7-5, 3-2.

Balleret, ranked No. 351 in the INDESIT ATP Rankings, earned a wild card into the singles qualification draw, where he upended two seeds en route to the main draw berth. The 23-year-old is playing in his first career ATP-level tournament and is the lowest-ranked player to reach the third round in an ATP Masters Series tournament.

Grosjean's countryman, Michael Llodra, was also defeated Wednesday, falling to ninth-seeded German Nicolas Kiefer 7-6(4), 6-4.
