Djokovic Sets Star-Studded SF Field

Novak Djokovic

Novak Djokovic ensured the top four seeds would contest Saturday's Masters Series Monte-Carlo semifinals after defeating American Sam Querrey 6-4, 6-0 on Friday. Djokovic will chase his third win in his past four meetings with ATP World No. 1 Roger Federer.

After finally breaking Querrey on his seventh break point opportunity in a tight first set, Djokovic raced through the second set, conceding just nine points tot Querrey, who had earlier remained competitive in baseline exchanges.

Playing his first clay-court event of the year, third-seeded Djokovic improved to a 20-4 record on the season. He is chasing his second ATP Masters Series title of the year (Indian Wells) to add to the Australian Open he won in January.

Preceding the Djokovic-Federer semifinal, second seed and three-time defending champion Rafael Nadal will take on fourth seed Nikolay Davydenko.

Only once before have the top four seeds all advanced to the semifinals of an ATP Masters Series event. That first happened in Cincinnati in 1999, when Pete Sampras, Patrick Rafter, Andre Agassi, and Yevgeny Kafelnikov all made the last four.
