Stanford ATP Doubles Race leaders Bob and Mike Bryan surged into the quarterfinals of Masters Series Monte-Carlo Thursday with a ruthless 6-2, 6-1 win over Argentines Juan Igancio Chela and Jose Acasuso. The Bryans recovered quickly from dropping Bob Bryan's serve in the opening game of the match, winning 11 of the next 12 games en route to a 6-2, 6-1 win in just 43 minutes.
Collectively, the Bryans missed just 10 first serves in the match and were also sharp on their returns, limiting the Argentines to a winning percentage of just 46 on their first serves and 23 percent (3/13) on their second serves. The Bryans, who extended their winning streak to 11 matches, next play Ashley Fisher and Jim Thomas.
Second seeds Jonas Bjorkman and Max Mirnyi (pictured) saved the lone break point they faced in a polished 6-3, 6-4 win over Mahesh Bhupathi and Radek Stepanek. Bjorkman and Mirnyi dropped just 10 points on serve for the match.
Two double faults from Jonathan Erlich in the late stages of the match tie-break proved costly for the sixth-seeded team of Erlich and Andy Ram, who fell to French duo Richard Gasquet and Juien Benneteau. Erlich and Ram held two match points, including one when Erlich double faulted, but the Frenchmen closed out the match on their third match point 4-6, 6-3, 15-13 (Match TB).
Ivan Ljubicic and Fernando Gonzalez took out third seeds Mark Knowles and Daniel Nestor 3-6, 6-4, 10-4 (Match TB).
